Hyundai will create a battery ecosystem

The partnership between Hyundai and SK Innovation in a new project is quite logical.

Hyundai Motor Group and one of the leaders in the battery industry, South Korean company SK Innovation, have agreed to work together to develop an ecosystem of batteries for electric vehicles. The goal is to "improve the sustainability of battery life cycle operations." At the same time, instead of banal deliveries of blocks to the customer, the project provides for the study of various aspects of this topic. Examples include battery sales, battery leasing and rental (BaaS), reuse and recycling.

One of the most non-trivial electric vehicles, the Hyundai Prophecy concept, will become a serial Ioniq 6 in 2022.

The partners intend to give impetus to the recycling industry for old batteries, which have at least two paths to "green" life: use them as a stationary energy storage and disassemble them, recovering lithium, cobalt and nickel for reuse. in new batteries.

Hyundai's partnership with SK Innovation in a new project is quite logical, given that the companies have already interacted with each other. In general, SK supplies batteries to a wide range of companies, from the giant Volkswagen to the little-known Arcfox (one of BAIC's car brands). We also remind that Hyundai Group intends to release several electric vehicles on the modular E-GMP platform under the Ioniq and KIA brands in the near future. The first production models of this architecture will be presented in 2021. They will use batteries from SK Innovation.
