How to extend the life of an electric vehicle battery
Devices with an individual lithium-ion energy source have become commonplace in the life of a modern person. This category of batteries is also used in electric vehicles. The most common problem with these power supplies is loss of capacity, or the ability of the battery to maintain a proper charge. This always negatively affects the comfort while traveling. It's like running out of fuel in your car engine.
Based on recommendations on the use of the battery and its charging in the technical literature of leading car manufacturers, Western experts gave 6 tips on how to extend the life of batteries for an electric vehicle.
1 Tip
First of all, it is necessary to minimize the influence of high temperatures not only during use, but also during storage of the EV battery. If possible, leave the machine in the shade or charge it so that the battery temperature monitoring system can maintain the optimal rate.
2 Tip
The same recommendation for low temperatures. Under such conditions, the battery charges worse because the electronics block the process in order to save the power source. When you connect the car to the mains, the system will maintain the optimum battery temperature. In some models, this function works as usual, even if the car is not set to charge. The function is deactivated when the charge drops below 15%.
3 Tip
Reduce the frequency of 100% charge. Try not to charge the battery every night. If on average you spend a quarter of the charge, it is better to use this resource for two days. Instead of constantly using the charge from 100 to 70 percent, on the second day you can use the available resource - from 70 to 40%. Intelligent chargers adapt to charging mode and will remind you of upcoming charging.
4 Tip
Reduce time spent in a fully discharged state. Usually the power system shuts off long before the indicator on the dashboard reaches zero. A motorist puts the battery in serious danger if it leaves a completely discharged battery for a long period.
5 Tip
Use quick charge less often. Electric vehicle manufacturers are trying to develop ever new fast charging systems so that the process takes no more time than regular refueling. But today, the only way to approach this idea is to use high-voltage direct current.
Unfortunately, this negatively affects the battery life. And the charging process still takes a couple of hours. This is inconvenient during an important trip.
In fact, fast charging should be used in the most extreme cases - for example, a forced trip that will deplete the strategic reserve left overnight. Use this feature as little as possible.
6 Tip
Try not to discharge the battery faster than necessary. This occurs with the active use of energy-intensive devices. Each battery is designed for a certain number of charge / discharge cycles. High discharge current enhances changes in battery capacity and significantly reduces its working life.
