How to store tires in the garage?

Using two different sets of tires for winter and summer is the most prudent policy for drivers in a country with a temperate climate. In this regard, the question arises: what to do with the four tires that we currently do not use, and how best to store them.

If you have a garage or basement, the answer is simple. If not, most bus centers will offer you their storage services. The cost of the proposal is not so high (within $ 5 per season). But even they sometimes make serious storage errors.

The most important condition that most people miss is storing tires in a pile. Many use this method, since it requires a minimum space in the room. But in fact, the tires are quite heavy, even when without wheels.

Even very worn and low profile ones weigh about eight kilograms. A twenty-inch counterpart with a higher profile can weigh up to 15 kilograms.

This means that when the tires are stacked on top of each other, pressure is exerted on the floor, equivalent to the gravity of two full boxes of beer. Multiply this by several months, and the result is an irreparable deformation.

It is best to keep the tires suspended from the ceiling (if they are stored with rims) or vertically placed on special supports - it is also a good idea to rotate them from time to time so that the weight is not concentrated in one point and does not deform the profile of the tire.

Ideally, tires are stored suspended from the ceiling (the tire is put on a disk, so the rope does not deform the edges of the product) or at least standing on special stands. Most people think of rubber as an inert material, but the material that tires are made from is actually a mixture of substances that is sensitive to moisture, heat, and contact with oils (such as garage floor stains) or acids.

Even direct sunlight affects them badly. It is best to store them in a dry, dark and cool place. When using tires on a car, it is difficult to protect them from harmful effects. But you can at least make sure that they don't go bad when you don't use them.
