Crossover, 185 "horsepower", four-wheel drive, automatic transmission, tires 245/45 R19 and, above all, a lot of equipment, including a parking aid. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, maybe a Volvo? No, just Hyundai.

This word is deliberately enclosed in quotation marks, as we can no longer speak derogatory, let alone derogatory, about the most common Korean car brands. And the aforementioned competitors were lucky that along with the progress went a higher price, otherwise they would whistle subtly. Unlike Kia, which in the Sportage has gone in the direction of significantly more dynamics, the appearance of the Tucson is still calm, elegant and even majestic. The car's distinctive mask makes a big impression on everyone, which is also known on the highway, as these sluggish people in the passing lane give way earlier than usual, and the narrow tail lights follow modern fashion trends.

During the test, we did not notice anyone who would not like the look of the new Tucson, but many of us just swallow it with our eyes. I confess I do too. The good external impression is spoiled a little by the gray interior, which is mostly black and leather. As if the designers were spending all their energy on pampering outside observers, those who actually buy a car and thus make a living from it are left on the sidelines. It's a pity, because coupled with the excellent ergonomics of the driver's workplace (older people will like the higher position, which is so characteristic of modern crossovers, and of course the softness of the control) and the impeccable equipment of the test car, it is difficult to look away.

Just for the sake of impressions, the test Tucson had a blind spot avoidance system, lane departure assistance, collision warning and automatic braking when the driver is distracted in the city, warning cars when entering traffic at right angles, a system for recognizing major road signs, assistance with downhill, semi-automatic parking system, reversing camera, additional heating of the steering wheel and seats (which also have the option of additional cooling), air conditioning, navigation, hands-free system, smart key and electrically adjustable roof, which we don't do I don't talk to the window at all ... Among the means of active and passive safety, we have missed something.

Therefore, it is best to focus on basic technique. The test Tucson was almost as equipped as the Kia Sportage we wrote about in a big test in the eighth issue of this year, so I should be forgiven if I ever compare the vehicles mentioned (which are also close relatives!). Both had an excellent six-speed automatic transmission, which was spoiled for refinement, both had under the hood a two-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of up to 136 kilowatts (or more domestic 185 "horsepower"), both driving programs, classic and sports. As I wrote in the Sportage, the dynamics are completely redundant, as I would have preferred more comfort from a family crossover than sportiness, which is not the case. The steering system is too indirect, the transmission is too fast, the engine is too smooth, and the chassis is not responsive enough.

Probably the biggest difference between the test cars was in the chassis: if the Sportage was clearly too stiff, which should indicate its purpose as a sports utility vehicle, the Tucson was still at the bottom of the line, despite the 19-inch low-profile 245 / Tire 45. ... And if I had chosen a car myself, I would have chosen a softer one, since this also suited my passengers more. You know what they say: if my children and especially my wife are happy, I am also happy, because then I have peace. Four-wheel drive will come in handy during spring snowfalls, and even more so when visiting various ski resorts. Then you will appreciate not only the lowering assist system or the ability to legalize the permanent four-by-four drive (4 × 4 lock), but also the large and highly flexible boot. The engine is powerful enough to easily take the entire family and their trash anywhere, but it's also true that at higher speeds, you no longer feel like you've bought a whopping 185 ravens. In addition, the average fuel consumption in the test was 8,5 liters per 100 kilometers.

Ha, Hyundai and Kia, and there will be some homework here... The Hyundai Tucson and sister Kia Sportage are good cars, which justifies their higher price, so the buying decision is more a matter of personal preference than a rational decision. And that the Tucson has the advantage here with a more comfortable chassis, in short, it's more majestic, as we said.
