Hyundai and Kia receive artificial intelligence gear

In multi-turn road tests, the system reduces transmission by 43%.

The Hyundai Group has developed a gearshift system based on information and communication technologies that will be integrated into Hyundai and Kia models.

The connected gearshift system using information and communication technologies (ICT) receives information from the TCU (transmission control unit), which analyzes data from cameras and radars of intelligent cruise control, as well as data from navigation (the presence of descents and ascents, the inclination of the roadway, bends and various traffic events, as well as the current traffic situation). Based on this information, the AI selects the optimal gearshift scenario.

During road tests with a large number of revolutions, ICTs allowed to reduce the number of gears by 43% and reduce the frequency of pressing the brake by 11%. This helps both save fuel and increase the service life of the brake system. In the future, the Hyundai Group intends to teach an algorithm for working with smart traffic lights on the roads.
