Honda FR-V 1.7 Comfort

But if I want to bring several generations there, in addition to a wife, say, two children, grandparents, transportation becomes a real nightmare. Unless you're thinking about a six-seater car!

If you want a six-seater car, there are already a lot of options. The three-seat double-seat limousine vans include the Renault Grand Scenic, Opel Zafira, Mazda MPV, VW Touran and Ford C-Max. And they could be listed. But if you want a six-seater with three seats in two rows, then the choice narrows down to two cars: the long-established Fiat Multiple (you can read the refurbished car test a few pages ahead) and the new Honda. FR-V.

Therefore, Honda is entering the world of limousine vans with a fresh product, which, however, immediately caused heated controversy in the editorial board. Not often, as ordinary people do, we begin to convince ourselves what kind of car it looks like. Some of us claimed that we had already swapped out the Hondo FR-V for a Mercedes in a fleeting encounter on the road, while others saw it as a BMW movement.

If you look at the newcomer Honda from side to side headlights, you'll find that he looks like Series 1 hair with a windmill on his nose. Of course, this kind of bullying usually goes nowhere, but since it rarely happens in the editorial office that we attribute the shape of a car to another make, we wondered if this is good for Honda? Did they look too closely at competitors in terms of design, or did they just win by comparing it to BMW and Mercedes? Time will show. ...

But we haven't heard as much laughter in a long time as we'd allow ourselves to drive an FR-V. Of course, what kind of car to take when you had to take several cars to the dealerships? FR-V! And when I was picking up the guys from Ljubljana, everyone wanted to try out the center seat in the front row. If the specified seat is combined with the adjacent ones, then it is intended only for transporting a child (so it is not surprising that the Isofix mounts were designed for as many as 3 seats, the middle one in the first row and the last two!), But if we take full advantage of the longitudinal offset of 270 mm. (The other two allow only 230 mm!) Believe me, even on the 194-centimeter Sasha sat quite comfortably between me and Lucky.

We laughed at the fact that I could use Sasha's knee as a comfortable support for my elbows, and imagined what it would be like to take a cute long-legged girl as a companion. ... Nice, what do you say? But the middle seat allows much more! You can fold the seat down for more storage, or you can completely lower the backrest for a table with a comfortable elbow rest. The same is true for the second type of middle seat.

Like the first one, it can be further slid longitudinally towards the trunk by 170 mm, and thus you get a double V-shaped seat. Useful, nothing, but then the trunk is no longer 439 liters, and the seats are half as much. It is true, however, that the FR-V allows the rear seats to be positioned at the bottom of the vehicle, which means that with a simple and effortless maneuver, you get completely flat extra boot space.

The interior is dominated by the dashboard, which is a design compromise and will be sold in both Europe and America, with the most interesting solution being the installation of a gear lever and a handbrake lever. If we say that with the gear lever it looks like the driver ate too much spinach and turned the gear lever with a strong right hand, the parking brake solution reminds us of the good old days when we were still racing. cars. But we only caused nostalgia because of the installation, not the inconvenience, since all the Honda controls are correct.

Driving is very relentless as the gearbox shifts from gear to gear like butter, and the steering (which Honda claims is one of the most modest and therefore sportier with a 10-meter turning radius) will appeal to men and women alike. men. women. hands. And while Honda points out that the FR-V is one of the sportiest limousine vans out there, as it should be fun due to its low body position (which is especially evident in its easy entry and exit, suitable for seniors!), the straighter steering. and engine mechanics in general. Especially the more dynamic fathers, don't trust them.

The FR-V has as much to do with sportiness as my house fish in the shark tank. There are several reasons for this discovery, but it all starts with the engine. The 1-liter four-cylinder engine allows you to move around the globe normally and absolutely no dynamics, so for the jumping 7-liter turbodiesel (2 Nm at 2 rpm compared to 340 Nm at 2000 rpm, as much as the 154-liter offers engine) wait until June. Gearboxes are designed to be shorter in favor of slightly better acceleration, and yet they bring with them a lot of annoyance: highway noise.

If you are driving at 130 km/h in fifth gear on the motorway, the engine will already be revving at 4100 rpm, causing more cabin noise and therefore less (audible) comfort. Honda has a solution - a six-speed gearbox that is designed for both petrol 2-litre and turbo-diesel 0-litre versions, but five gears should be enough for the weakest. Error, they say in the Auto store, and we want sixth gear even at 2 hp. .

And while the FR-V relies on the CR-V chassis, only the sedan has a longer wheelbase, Honda expects 4 stars in the Euro NCAP test. They say safety is important, which is why a whopping six standard airbags were installed in the FR-V, with the front right airbag inflating to 133 liters and protecting both right-hand passengers at the same time!

Namely, the family idyll begins not in the places mentioned in the introduction, but much earlier, and certainly in the car. If we are gloomy and in a bad mood on the way to the desired goal, any idyll disappears, doesn't it?

Overall rating (304/420)

  • Not that you dislike this car, but don't expect too much sportiness from Honda (buy a Hondo Accord Tourer for that) or too much comfort (wait until the turbo diesel gets better). However, it is special on the road!

  • Exterior (13/15)

Nothing fancy, nice car, although we just competed in tilt, from which it inherited the main contours.

  • Interior (104/140)

Spacious, well made, well equipped, although there were some complaints about ergonomics and poor drying of wet windows.

  • Engine, transmission (28

    / 40)

The engine is reliable, but not the most suitable for this car. The transmission lacks sixth gear or a "longer" fifth.

  • Driving performance (82

    / 95)

Although the limousine van is designed to carry 6 people, it is still genetically Honda. So sportier than the competition!

  • Performance (19/35)

Wait for turbodiesel if you can afford it!

  • Security (25/45)

Rich equipment (six airbags, ABS, etc.), We only lacked the traction control system of the driving wheels.

  • Economy

Fuel consumption is expected to be slightly higher (more vehicle weight, less engine displacement) and you won't lose as much selling used as your competitors.
