Ford Mondeo 1.8 SCI Ghia

Some are more fuel efficient and others are less fuel efficient, which should be the main reason for using a direct injection gasoline engine that runs (in economy mode) on a lean mixture. Why this is so we will write a few pages ahead, but in this article we will write more about the car that convincingly confirms this theory: the Ford Mondeo with a 1-liter engine with SCI marking. SCI stands for Smart Charge Injection - a good sign that a direct injection engine can run lean when it's not fully loaded.

It is supposed to save 6 to 8 percent of the amount of fuel consumed in everyday use, but of course this depends mainly on the driver's right foot - the heavier, the higher the consumption. And because the engine is inherently more sleepy, the accelerator pedal was often on the ground during the test. Thus, the test consumption is not as low as one would expect at first glance - just under 11 liters per 100 kilometers.

The already weaker turbo-diesel engine is a better bet for fuel economy, especially since it has 130 "horsepower" and a whopping 175 Nm of torque, compared to SCI's 115 horsepower and 285 Nm. The more powerful 130 hp TDCI is much faster than the SCI, but still more economical. Thus, TDCI performance is higher, consumption is lower and the price is comparable. Specifically: The stronger TDCI is a little less than $100 more expensive.

Despite the fact that the SCI is not the liveliest engine, it is at least outwardly an athlete. This was mainly provided by 18-inch wheels with low-profile tires (which ensured excellent road position and braking distance), and additional ESP and xenon headlights provided safety.

The Ghia equipment designation means a rich assortment, including automatic air conditioning, and the list of optional equipment in the Mondeo tested was long and varied. In addition to the aforementioned safety accessories and wheel rims, there are also leather, electrically adjustable and fan cooled seats and electrically foldable mirrors. ...

Just a little less than 6 million tolars. Many? Supposedly taking into account the capabilities of the engine, but not taking into account the car as a whole. Good road location, lots of space and equipment justify the price.
