Fiat Multipla 1.9 JTD Emotion

Do you remember? All the time before the renovation, there were two poles among people: those who claimed it was a premium product, and others who thought it was too ugly! Even now, half of them are two: those who think that she is now "out of reach", and others who think that she has finally acquired the correct form. Which one will buy it?

Regardless of opinions and appearance before or now, the Multipla is ingeniously designed: at (now) a good four meters (previously only a few millimeters less) there is a box-shaped carriage, which, due to its large width and height, offers two rows with three seats. It's good that the seats are the same size, it's good that everyone has three-point seat belts and airbags, and it's good that there are six airbags, and even worse, that only the last three seats can be removed with simple movements; if there could be a middle one in the first row, the possibility of using the passenger section would be excellent.

So the update hasn't taken away its usefulness, but it has taken away some of its coolness: now it's no longer that far recognizable nose with distinctive and completely different headlights, and now it's no longer a big sheet metal lettering 'Multipla' on the tailgate. And no more peppy taillights. The animator became a little more serious, less playful.

But part of the body behind the engine of a characteristic shape remained. The part that does not taper upwards and is controlled by the driver with the help of narrow, but high and double rear-view mirrors. It takes a little getting used to the image in them. The driver will not complain about the rest - the steering position is comfortable. The bottom edge of the left door panel is right where the left elbow wants to rest, and the shift lever is right next to the steering wheel. The steering is light and not fatiguing.

Inside, the most noticeable change (styling) is the steering wheel, which is also awkwardly bulging and with hard button tubes. The location of the sensors in the middle of the dashboard is a good solution, but the control of the on-board computer is bad: the sensor keys are far from the driver's hands. And while there are quite a few drawers and therefore storage space, many people will miss out on even one with a lock and one that can swallow the original instruction booklet in the original folder without smashing it carelessly. It impresses with the brightness of the interior, which is (maybe) even brighter with the (optional) electrically adjustable double roof window.

The mechanics also remained unchanged. The nearly square and precisely steerable wheels provide excellent road handling with very little body slope, while the Multipla (along with Dobló) has by far the best steering wheel of any Fiat at the moment: precise and direct with good feedback. Ironically, we don't really expect anything like this in a car like the Multipla, and on the other hand the Stiló 2.4 would be very happy with it along with its owner. Thus, the Multiple mechanics have a sporty character, but do not require an experienced sporty driver; it's also easy for drivers who don't (just) enjoy driving.

Aerodynamics with a large front surface is not exactly a sporty variety, so even a great turbodiesel cannot show everything it knows and is capable of. But it doesn't disappoint either, it rather pleases the owner as there is a better choice between the two options available. It consistently pulls everything from idle to 4500 rpm and pleases with its torque. The "turbo hole" is completely invisible, so from this point of view, the engine perfectly closes the chapter on ease of driving.

If the driver accidentally falls behind, he will also be able to drive very dynamically with the Mulipla JTD, especially on short corners and on uphills, and preferably a combination of both. Powered by a turbodiesel engine, it will also impress in cities and on long journeys, while its consumption is eight liters per 100 kilometers. All the more so with a gentle foot. Even with constant driving, the consumption will not exceed 11 liters per 100 kilometers.

That's why it's true: If you've looked at the Multiple as a useful and fun machine before, don't change your mind just because of its new, calmer face. He has remained the same: friendly, easy to operate and helpful.

evaluation

  • True, now it looks completely different. But this does not affect usability; it is still a car with excellent mechanics, very good driving characteristics and a capacity of six people. If possible, choose such a (turbodiesel) engine.
