Fiat Multipla 1.6 16V Emotion

This probably did not need to be explained upon the arrival of the Multiple. The reflective design, large glass surfaces, interestingly positioned headlights (two at the bottom and two at the top) and the unusual lines of the taillights clearly indicated which buyers it was intended for. They also furnished the interior to their liking.

Then came 2004. Multipla blew out the sixth candle and it was time to repair it. Since the plant is mired in problems that certainly no one will envy, it is quite understandable that they treated the repairs with restraint and thoughtfulness. The looks have become more mundane, the headlights and taillights have become classics, and the Multipla is on the market as we see it today.

Many are likely to overlook the distinctive difference that is so characteristic of her. Especially those who caught her previous face. Fortunately (or unfortunately) this does not apply to his interior. This remains unchanged, meaning that much of the dashboard is still upholstered in fabric, that the center console still resembles a mass of raw clay, that bare metal sheet is still visible inside and that the cabin can still comfortably accommodate six adult passengers. This is possible thanks to the unique seating arrangement, with which, in addition to the driver, two more passengers can sit in front.

In order for the engineers to realize the idea of six seats in two rows, they first had to expand the interior of the cabin. Thus, at elbow level, the Multipla offers 3 centimeters more space than, for example, the Beemvei 7 Series. In terms of its dimensions, it is fully comparable to the other five, so the sixth passenger should not have any problems with comfort, and the Multipla, upon arrival, became a kind of special among its kind. With a relatively small outer length, unusual width, length, the car is suitable for large trunks and three folding and removable rear seats.

So it remains clear that, despite the repair, you will not remember this car just like that. Three seats in a row means that four of the six passengers are quite close to the door. That does not inspire the desired sense of security. Here, too, there is a problem that accompanies an inexperienced driver for the first few kilometers. Determining the width of a car is quite misleading. The car is wider than you think. The most ironic thing about all of this is that the seats in the middle are the ones that will probably only be occupied when five or six passengers leave the Multipla.

However, this limousine van will impress you in other areas as well. You will not find such a cheerful and obedient (read: direct) steering wheel in any other limousine minibus. The shift lever and other switches are always at hand, except for the one that controls the on-board computer, which is hidden somewhere between the sensors. If we add to that an incredibly lively engine, we dare say that the Multipla is one of the funniest minivans around. And this applies to everyone who gets inside. This design is versatile enough not to be boring. Large glass surfaces provide a panoramic view of the surroundings every time.

We cannot talk about possible malnutrition of engines in city centers. 103 Multiple cavalry is being driven out of town extremely quickly. The fact that there is "only" a 1-liter engine in the nose can only be found on open roads outside the village. Then it turns out that 6 Nm is not enough for sovereign overtaking from the average operating range of the engine, that at speeds above 145 km / h, the noise inside begins to increase significantly and that when driving, fuel consumption easily reaches 130 liters. a hundred kilometers.

This is the downside of Multiple, to which we unfortunately have to add the reputation we already thought they had gotten rid of. In the fourteen days of our test, we picked up a sign from a tailgate that fell off with a perfectly innocent closure in a few degrees below zero. From the bottom of the front bumper, we finally tore off the protective rubber with our hands, which began to hang down at both ends and every day “bend” through the air into the rearview mirror, which never remained in the position in which we installed it. This. But that has nothing to do with the playfulness of the Fiat SUV.

evaluation

  • The hotel has been renovated. This time mostly outwardly, some like it more, and some less. But the point is, the character hasn't changed much. Inside, it still retains its playful design and six seats in two rows. The glass surfaces remain panoramic in size and drivers will still be able to tell that this is one of the funniest sedans on the market in terms of handling.
