One of the EA888 series of power units is the Volkswagen 1.8 TSI engine. The analogue of the engine is a model of the same TFSI volume, which is installed on Audi cars. The German concern VAG produces many modifications, but they have common design weaknesses.

Modifications
The EA888 series are engines with a volume of 1,8-2 with a turbocharger, there are already 4 generations of them: gen0 / 1, gen2, gen3, gen3B (version 2,0). Gen1 modifications / power: CDAA / 160, CDAB / 152, CDHB / 160, CJEB / 170. In the same row are: BYT 1,8 TSI / 160, BZB / 160, CABA / 120, CABB / 170, CABD / 170.
VW 1.8 TSI problems
- Valve train chain. With a run of 100-140 thousand km, a jump of 1-3 gear teeth is observed. It is recommended to leave the car braked on the slope.
- Cooling system. Thermostat malfunctions, pump leakage are possible at 50-60 thousand mileage.
- Working pair - crankshaft oil seal and crankcase ventilation valve. Due to air leaks through the stuffing box, the idle speed is unstable. Replacement of parts is required after 90-120 thousand kilometers.
The main problem is considered to be increased oil consumption. This is often due to imperfections in the oil separator.
Tuning 1.8 TSI
The Volkswagen concern is also engaged in chip tuning: the electronic control unit of a 120-horsepower CABA is stitched to the usual 160 forces of other models. The increase in power after the procedure is possible from 160-170 to 215 hp.
Tuning for Stage 2 - installation of an intercooler for charge air - intercooler, and downpipe... The procedure gives an increase of up to 240-250 strength.
