Toyota 2JZ-FSE 3.0 engine
Content
A characteristic feature of the Toyota 2JZ-FSE three-liter petrol engine is the D4 direct petrol injection system. The power unit was produced in 1999-2007, incorporating the best qualities of the previous models of the JZ series. The engine was installed on rear- and all-wheel drive cars with an automatic transmission. The resource of 2JZ-FSE before overhaul is 500 thousand km.

Arrangement of 6 cylinders Ø86 mm in a cast iron block - in-line along the axis of movement of the machine, head - aluminum with 24 valves. The piston stroke is 86 mm. The motor is also characterized by the following parameters:
- Power - 200-220 hp from. with a compression ratio of 11,3: 1. Liquid cooling.
- The gas distribution mechanism (timing) is belt-driven, there are no hydraulic lifters.
- Direct injection, D4. Fuel injection, without turbocharging. Valve system type - with phase regulator VVT-i (intelligent fuel supply), DOHC 24V. Ignition - from the distributor / DIS-3.
- Consumable fuels and lubricants: AI-95 (98) gasoline in mixed travel mode - 8,8 liters, lubricant - up to 100 g / 100 km of track. One-time oil filling 5W-30 (20), 10W-30 - 5,4 liters, complete replacement is performed after 5-10 thousand km of run.
Where is the engine number
The serial number is located on the power unit at the bottom left in the direction of vehicle travel. This is a vertical platform of 15x50 mm, located between the power steering and the shock-absorbing motor cushion.
Modifications
In addition to the FSE model, 2 more modifications of power plants were released in the 2JZ series: GE, GTE, which have the same volume - 3 liters. 2JZ-GE had a lower compression ratio (10,5) and was replaced by a more modern 2JZ-FSE. Version 2JZ-GTE - equipped with CT12V turbines, which ensured an increase in power up to 280-320 liters. from.
2JZ-FSE problems
- small resource of the VVT-i system - it is changed every 80 thousand run;
- the high-pressure fuel pump (TNVD) is repaired or a new one is installed after 80-100 t. km;
- Timing: adjust the valves at the same frequency, replace the drive belt.
- punching may appear, as a rule, due to one ignition coil that has failed.
Other disadvantages: vibration at low speeds, fear of frost, moisture.
Tuning 2JZ-FSE
For reasons of rationality, it is impractical to modify the Toyota 2JZ-FSE engine, since it turns out to be much more expensive than a swap on a 2JZ-GTE. For which there are already many ready-made solutions (turbo kits) to increase power. Read more in the material: tuning 2JZ-GTE.
What cars was the 2JZ-FSE installed on?
2JZ-FSE engines were installed on Toyota models:
- Crown Majesty (S170);
- Progress;
- Short.
