Modifications
In 1995, the model was revised: the compression level was increased from 10,1 to 10,4, and the connecting rods and pistons were lightened. Power increased to 261 hp. from. (in the original version - 256 liters. from.) The torque was 363 N * m, which is 10 units more than the value in the original version.
In 1997, a VVT-i gas phase distribution system was installed, and the compression level increased to 10,5. Such changes made it possible to increase power up to 300 horsepower, torque - up to 407 N * m.
Thanks to such modifications in 1998-2000. the 1UZ-FE engine was included in the TOP-10 of the best engines of the year.
Problems
With proper maintenance, 1UZ-FE does not give car owners "headaches". You only need to change the oil every 10 km and change the timing belts, as well as spark plugs after 000 km.
The power parts of the motor are quite durable. However, the unit contains many attachments that, when used, can wear out earlier than expected. In the new versions, the most "capricious" contactless ignition system, which at the slightest breakdown requires only professional intervention and does not tolerate amateur performance.
Another problematic element is the water pump. The bending moment of the belt constantly acts on it, and the pump loses its tightness. The car owner needs to regularly check the condition of this element, otherwise the timing belt may break at any time.

Tuning 1UZ-FE
To increase the power of the Toyota 1UZ-FE, you can install a turbo kit based on the Eaton M90. It is recommended to purchase a fuel regulator and direct-flow exhaust for it. This will allow reaching a pressure of 0,4 bar and developing power up to 330 "horses".
To obtain a power of 400 liters. from. you will need ARP studs, forged pistons, 3-inch exhaust, new injectors from the 2JZ-GTE model, Walbro 255 lph pump.
There are also turbo kits (Twin turbo - for example, from TTC Performance), which allow you to inflate the engine up to 600 hp, but their cost is very high.
