We regularly change summer tires for winter ones, do oil changes, undergo technical inspection, but for some reason, many car owners consider such a procedure as disinfecting a car air conditioner to be not so important. However, this opinion is erroneous, because if we evaluate this issue from the standpoint of our health, then such an operation should be given much more attention.
Why do you need antibacterial treatment of the car air conditioner?
Car air conditioners have already become an integral part of our cars, and even the owners of old vehicles have probably thought more than once about installing a split system. Of course, such a device makes our trips more comfortable, but do not forget that, like all other elements, it also needs care, and even more thorough, and this fact cannot be ignored.
We won't go into details of exactly how this system works, but we all know that cool air comes from air conditioners. At the same time, moisture, condensate, dust and dirt are constantly collected inside them, which contribute to the emergence of pathogenic bacteria, as well as fungus. As a result, an unpleasant smell appears in the cabin, but this is not the worst thing, although it is very annoying. All these harmful bacteria lead to allergies, irritation of the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract and can even be the cause of infectious diseases.
So it is necessary to carry out activities that will be aimed at the destruction of fungus and bacteria, i.e. disinfection. Moreover, it should be done at least once every six months, and only then will your trip be both comfortable and safe.
Which method of disinfection to choose?
Today, the choice of means and methods by which you can fight viruses and fungi in the car air conditioner is quite large, it can be ultrasonic cleaning, steam treatment. Well, the cheapest, but, nevertheless, effective is the use of antiseptic sprays. Let's consider each method in more detail.
- Steaming is very effective as the steam penetrates every nook and cranny. However, it should not be used for low-quality split systems, since their parts are often made of poor plastic, which deforms under high temperatures.
- The most expensive, but at the same time safe, is ultrasonic cleaning. In this case, there is a combination of an antiseptic and a special installation that produces its ultrasonic spraying.
- The two methods described above require expensive equipment, so that for home conditions, only the third method remains - spray treatment. You can buy a can of antiseptic at any auto shop, while its cost can be either 300 or 1000 rubles, it all depends on the quality and manufacturer. It is not worth mentioning that we are talking about health, so excessive savings in this case is not justified.
Car air conditioner disinfection by yourself
In general, such serious operations as replacing the refrigerant, repairing the compressor, or completely cleaning the system are best left to professionals, but antibacterial treatment of a car air conditioner is quite feasible at home. You only need to purchase an antiseptic, but this should not be a problem. If there are material difficulties, then you can dilute the lysol-containing composition with water in a ratio of 1:100. 400 ml of solution will be enough to process the conditioner. Do not forget to take care of your own safety, so we use protective gloves and a mask.
We take a spray bottle with an antiseptic and proceed to a simple, but very painstaking work. First of all, we will take care of the interior upholstery, so we carefully cover the dashboard, seats, as well as those places where the solution can still get into with polyethylene. After all, no one knows how the material will behave when it reacts with a chemical. Then we open the car doors, turn on the split system to the maximum and spray the antiseptic near the air intakes.
After the air ducts have been cleaned, you should deal with the evaporator, in the case when it is not possible to get close to it, you need to start the engine and direct the stream of funds under the glove box. Remember, it is recommended to turn on the air conditioner only a few minutes after starting the engine, and turn it off, on the contrary, some time before stopping, and then your split system will last longer and the air will be cleaner.
