Daewoo Lanos from the South Korean manufacturer was presented in 1997 at the Geneva Motor Show. Although the model was positioned as its own development, specialists from some companies from Germany and America took part in its design. The front-wheel drive sedan has replaced the Nexia.

The range of engines includes modifications that were previously used by the Opel concern. These are 4-cylinder internal combustion engines with 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6 liters. Some of these units were exclusively 8-valve, but the buyer was also offered a choice of 16-valve modifications. A 5-speed manual transmission was offered in a pair of these motors, and a 6-speed automatic in more expensive trim levels.

The basic configuration of the sedan is modest. The list of equipment includes a power steering, a budget radio with 4 speakers and bumpers in body color. In more expensive trim levels, power accessories, foglights, air conditioning appear, a tachometer and central locking appear on the tidy.
