Cruise Origin from GM - a new word in the field of taxi

In 2019, General Motors abandoned the production of the Chevrolet Cruze, which outright lost the competition to drones and electric cars. However, for a long time the manufacturer does not want to be in the role of losers: he has already announced the release of the Origin electric car.

Cruise is an American company founded in 2013. While the tendency of “dronelessness” was just emerging, and it seemed that by 2020, most cars would not have pedals and steering wheel. Expectations did not materialize, but Cruise sold itself to the General Motors concern. Now this is a division of the company producing unmanned cars.

Such an acquisition cannot be called very successful, although there are positive aspects. For example, the development of Super Cruise technology, which is a third-level autopilot. In addition, the unmanned brand has been experimenting with the Chevrolet Bolt model, and now plans to release a completely original Origin model.

The Origin is a classic arrangement: these are passenger seats located opposite each other. It is known that a completely new platform from General Motors will be used as the basis. No information about her yet.

It will be impossible to put the driver behind the wheel of the Origin: there is no “human” control even as an option. All control will be taken over by radars and lidars, a navigation system.

Most likely, the car can not be purchased. He will only be rented out for work in the taxi segment. The electric car is designed for mileage of 1,6 million km. This endurance is guaranteed by the modular device of the car: each one can be updated without problems to upgrade or replace.

The idea of the creators is that Origin should “turn” the taxi world. Thanks to new technologies, traffic jams will be avoided, and passengers will be able to calculate the duration of the trip up to a second.

When to wait for such a technological breakthrough is unknown. The manufacturer is trying to get approval for Origin tests on regular American roads. Therefore, you need to wait until all organizational issues are agreed upon, until the tests pass, until the shortcomings are eliminated, and only after that the company will begin full-fledged production.
