What is a parquet SUV?

The SUV is the most popular car for the city, and for those who rarely go to the country road. The SUV is an all-terrain wagon that looks like a crossover. Such a car combines excellent driving characteristics, a spacious interior, moderate cross country roads, and of course practicality. For more than 15 years, SUVs have been holding a high sales bar all over the world, and what is the secret - read on.

What is the secret of the name?

The answer to the most asked question, why “SUVs” are so called, is simple. When developing a lightweight version of an all-wheel drive SUV, the engineers took into account several criteria:

  • SUVs are often purchased not for their intended purpose;
  • when driving in urban mode, a jeep consumes a lot of fuel;
  • not all four-wheel drive SUVs are equally comfortable on the pavement.

The classic SUV was taken as the basis, the engineers reduced the dimensions, removed a number of unnecessary functions (razdatka, center differential lock, or permanent all-wheel drive), preferred permanent front-wheel drive, the body became load-bearing, as a result, the working name of such a car is SUV. By the way, instead of the classic all-wheel drive, many off-road station wagons are equipped with an electromagnetic clutch, which transmits part of the torque to the rear axle forcibly or during slipping.

The output is a mini-SUV, compact, practical and inexpensive to operate.

In America, SUVs are called CUV Crossover Utility Vehicle (SUV-crossover). It is explained by the fact that this category of car combines the driving characteristics of a passenger sedan with the external data of an SUV. The CUV cross-country ceiling is a primer, and even then not every one.

Why are SUVs in high demand?

  • The bearing body is lighter and more compact;
  • electromagnetic connection of all-wheel drive if necessary, which does not affect the increase in fuel consumption. Compact clutch simulating all-wheel drive does not take up useful space and does not reduce the clearance of the machine;
  • a completely independent suspension allows you to travel as comfortably as possible on the roads of any surface, which is important both for the city and for the priming of country directions. Wide angles of the suspension also allow you to safely overcome sharp turns, offsetting a higher center of gravity;
  • clearance, which is sufficient for urban operation. Mini-crossover is not afraid of curbs and other obstacles, in addition, most cars are equipped with protective pads for the lower part of the body (expanders);
  • the cost of a car, its maintenance and operation. Due to the simple design of the transmission and uncomplicated suspension, as well as the minimum load on them, the resource of the main components and assemblies is quite large;
  • practicality. SUVs are considered quite universal cars: both for families and for summer cottages, some options have the habits of a sports car (for example, BMW X3 M).

Negative sides:

  • on a SUV to climb beyond the fields and the primer is not recommended;
  • with active slip, overheating of the all-wheel drive clutch is possible, which leads to failure;
  • vulnerability of the bottom (plastic linings, pallets, brake pipes in the risk zone when passing serious irregularities).

What are the differences between SUV, crossover and SUV

What are the differences between SUV, crossover and SUV

SUVs are often confused with crossovers due to their similarity, but technically they are completely different cars, for example BMW X3 is a SUV, and X5 is a crossover, although it is mistakenly considered an SUV.

The above specifications show how much the three types of cars differ from each other. By driving performance, you can add the following:

  • CUV and SUV are faster than a classic SUV due to the mass;
  • SUV “gluttonous”;
  • all-wheel drive with a hard differential lock is an absolute favorite on off-road, and a danger when driving at high speed on asphalt;
  • in comfort, the classic SUV wins due to the long-stroke and roll suspension;
  • the maintenance of a full-fledged jeep is more expensive.

Questions and answers:

What kind of SUV car? This is a car similar to an SUV (large body and increased ground clearance), but with the characteristics of an ordinary city car. another name for the SUV is a crossover.

Why is the crossover called a SUV? For such cars the unofficial name "parquet SUV" stuck, because most of the models are not designed for off-road, and are operated in urban environments.

What is the difference between an SUV? It differs from an SUV in a lightweight design and minimal options for overcoming off-road. They often differ from an ordinary car only in the shape of the body.
