What can happen if you spend the night in a drunk car?

In principle, there is no prohibition on sleeping in a car - whether in a sober or drunk state. Nevertheless, it is worth paying attention to some details in order to avoid problems.

The most important rule!

The first and main rule when driving: do not drink alcohol. If you are going to drink, forget about the car. Someone relies on a “guardian angel”, but at the most inopportune moment such “protection” does not work. It is better to take the key in a sober state or not to go to the party at all by your own car.

If you still decide to have a drink, it is better to spend the night in the car than driving on the road. However, even in this situation, accidents can occur.

Unexpected situations

Various media reported that the sleeping driver accidentally pressed the clutch pedal, and the car drove out onto the roadway. Sometimes the exhaust system of a working car (this is required for the air conditioner to work) set fire to dry grass.

Many vehicles are equipped with a keyless engine start system. The engine can be activated by accidentally pressing the start button. A sleepy driver in a panic may not orientate himself and create an emergency.

It is also helpful to know how the body breaks down alcohol. The average alcohol content is reduced by 0,1 ppm per hour. If only a few hours have passed from the last glass to the first trip, the blood alcohol content is likely to exceed acceptable limits.

Where can I sleep in the car?

Regardless of the state of mind and body, it is good to spend the night in the right or back seat, but never in the driver's seat. The risk of inadvertently starting the car or pressing on the clutch is too great.

It is also not advisable to sleep under a car if such an idea comes to someone’s head. In order for something bad to happen, just apply the parking brake. The car must be parked in a visible place off the road.

Can they be fined?

It is possible that spending the night in a car will bring you a fine. This can happen if the engine turns on, even “for a while”, to start heating. In principle, it should not look like the driver is ready to go at any time.

In this case, it is good that the key is outside the ignition, even if you are not going to start the engine. Sometimes a drunk person just sitting in the driver's seat was fined, as it was interpreted as an intention to drive a car while intoxicated.

Regardless of whether you are an experienced driver or have the innate ability to effectively communicate with police officers, prudence has not harmed anyone.
