Test drive BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupé: real value

Test drive BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupé: real value

How much will it cost you to drive and maintain a small but powerful Gran Coupé?

The top version of the Series 2 of BMW has a four-cylinder engine and a dual transmission. 306 horsepower drives the M235i quite dynamically - but how fuel efficient is it?

The new "aggregate"-based Gran Coupé is distributed by BMW in the Series 2 family. That doesn't make life particularly easy for the M235i, as it lacks the familiar BMW status symbols of rear-wheel drive and a six-cylinder engine. However, in the xDrive versions, the power reaches all the wheels, but in general, the load falls mainly on the front end. Does the drive scheme also burden the owner's wallet? Let's see what the real value of a car is in everyday life.

Fuel consumption in our test

Average fuel consumption reported by BMW in the NEDC test cycle is 6,7 liters per 100 kilometers. As usual, things look a little different in everyday life. On the auto motor und sport test route after 100 kilometers the consumption is 8,8 liters, which is more than two liters more. At prices in Germany, this is € 10,64 for the entire distance. The highest and lowest consumption values are achieved when driving on an eco-route (6,5 l / 100 km) and on a sports track (11,6 l / 100 km). We have calculated prices based on data from our partner portal mehr-tanken.de.

Monthly maintenance costs

According to the invoices, in Germany, petrol for 100 km will cost between 7,86 euros (if you choose an economical driving style) and 14,02 euros (if you drive sports). Liability insurance is 436 euros and Casco insurance is 574 euros per year. If you drive 235 kilometers a year in an M15i Gran Coupé it will cost you 000 euros per month, if you drive 310 30 km the monthly cost will be 000 euros. We do not include depreciation due to obsolescence here, because this is a strictly individual value.

This is how we run tests

Fuel consumption in automotive and sport tests includes the results of three measurements on different routes, each with a different relative weight in the total value. 70% falls on the so-called "Daily consumption" - regular travel from home to work for a distance of an average of 21 km. The cost of a 15 km route for particularly economical driving is 275 percent. The remaining 15 percent is in the sports driving section. Its length is about the same as that of the ecological route, but most of the route passes along the tracks, so the average speeds are much higher. The basis for the calculation of fuel prices is always the data on the portal "mehr Tanken" on the day of writing the article.

Monthly maintenance costs include service costs, car supplies and insurance for 15 or 000 km of annual mileage, excluding obsolescence.

Conclusion

In the engine and sports consumption test for the BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupé with 306 hp. an average value of 8,8 l / 100 km was reported. This shows the cost picture in Germany as follows: € 10,64 per 100 km for fuel, monthly maintenance costs € 310 or € 552 (respectively € 15 and € 000 per year).
