Test drive BMW 335i: icing on the cake

The model with an inline-six under the bonnet is one of those cars that will leave no one indifferent.

Times change, and for one reason or another we are often used to associating this fact with some not very positive phenomena and processes. The BMW 335i has managed to demonstrate that there are things that get better and better over time, and when their evolution includes some changes in character, that can be a good thing too. Come to think of it, the years were not too far off when a BMW with a six-cylinder petrol engine producing over 300 hp was mentioned. and rear-wheel drive made car enthusiasts shine by imagining great engine sound, monstrous acceleration and extreme driving styles. But for calmer natures or for people with a little more pragmatic thinking, the idea of such a car consisted in serious compromises with the comfort of movement and the equally serious probability that any reckless maneuver would end in a spectacular, but not at any cost, the desired pirouette. on the road and fuel consumption remained among the topics that seem to be better not to delve into.

Well, obviously the current version of the 335i is looking at things from a completely different angle. This car gives the driver and his companions the opportunity to enjoy comfort that borders on the fifth series. In a moderate driving style, the car demonstrates steadfast calm and excellent manners, the tachometer needle rarely goes beyond the first third of the scale (however, a huge torque of 400 Nm is available in almost the entire engine operating range - from 1200 to 5000 rpm), the transmission remains completely invisible , and the contact of the rear wheels with the road is surprisingly stable even on pavement with not very good traction. Fuel consumption, in turn, may surprise many, and even shock some: with a relatively even ride outside the city, the 335i shows values \u8b\u9bof 100 to 1,6 liters per 306 kilometers. With a weight of XNUMX tons and XNUMX extremely well-trained stallions under the hood, such a figure seems almost unbelievable.

And if, after what has been said so far, anyone fears that the fiery nature of the 335i has been sacrificed for convenience and efficiency, we can only say one thing: no, on the contrary! All you have to do is switch to Sport mode or just step on the accelerator pedal, and the 335i instantly becomes the athlete it deserves. Acceleration traction is almost phenomenal, the steering precision is the highest in the class and unambiguously reminds of why the "three" is considered a kind of a hallmark of BMW.
