Gasoline or diesel car: which is more profitable
Content
When buying a car, each driver thought that it was better to choose: a gasoline engine or diesel. Maybe this issue was less relevant if it were not for the increase in fuel prices and car maintenance.
In the Ukrainian market, both engines have worked well. If in 2000 many brands did not risk importing diesel engines due to low-quality fuel, now the situation has changed dramatically: most automakers have begun to supply diesel to Ukraine, focusing on their economy.
To begin, compare the engines with each other:
Gasoline engines | Diesel engines |
Not so picky about fuel quality | Consumes less fuel |
Better adapt to fast driving | More high-torque than gasoline |
Service work is much cheaper | Has a narrow range of effective traction - 1500 rpm |
Fuel consumption at times more than diesel | High probability of damaging the engine with low-quality fuel |
The ability to convert cars under HBO to reduce fuel consumption | Costly service and repairs |
More comfortable work in terms of acoustics | Auto warms up the interior for a long time and has a low heat output |
Which cars are more expensive
Which is better to choose, diesel or gasoline? This issue has two sides of the same coin: diesel is cheaper, but machine maintenance is quite expensive. But when buying a vehicle, for some reason, motorists do not think that in the future they will need to contact the service station.
Speaking about the prices of the cars themselves, they do not differ much. For example: Renault Logan on gasoline costs from UAH 242, the same model on diesel costs UAH 900. The Japanese hatchback Hyundai i296 on diesel costs from 373 hryvnia, and the model on gasoline costs from 20 hryvnia.
The conclusion suggests itself: a car with a diesel engine costs a little more, but the driver can save on fuel. Of course, if it's worth it.
Which car is more expensive to service
As we wrote above, diesel engine maintenance is more expensive. To understand what is at stake, consider a few repairs and compare prices.
Name | Petrol | Diesel |
Replacing the intake manifold gasket | 250 from UAH | 400 from UAH |
Crankshaft Pulley Replacement | 500 from UAH | 650 from UAH |
Valve Adjustment (16 valves) | 900 from UAH | 1100 from UAH |
From the table we see that prices differ dramatically. What is more profitable to buy - you decide. Save on fuel, but overpay for repairs, or vice versa: overpay on fuel and save on repairs.
Important! The service interval for diesel cars is 10 km, and for gasoline - 000 km. That is, maintenance costs will hit the owners of a diesel car.
Which car requires more fuel
The most important advantage of a diesel engine is its low fuel appetite. For example: a gasoline engine with a volume of 2 liters in the city consumes 10-12 liters per 100 km, and 2 liters of diesel - 7-8 liters per 100 km. The difference is very significant. At idle, diesel also shows good results, which can not be said about gasoline.
If the driver has to travel a lot, about 20 km per year, buying a diesel car is justified.
Let's give another obvious example of fuel consumption: a Citroen Grand C4 Picasso with a diesel engine in the city consumes 4-5 liters per 100 km, and on the highway -3,8 l / 100 km. The gasoline engine "eats" 5-6 liters per 100 km.
As for the cost of the fuel itself, the liter of gasoline and diesel fuel do not differ much from each other: DT is cheaper, on average, by 2 hryvnias. But the expense - is fundamentally different, this is especially noticeable on the engine from 2 liters or more.
Which car drives better and faster
Diesel engines run an order of magnitude louder than gasoline engines and this despite the new technologies that open up many opportunities for the manufacturer. Of course, new models of diesel cars have become much more comfortable than their previous counterparts, but nevertheless, gasoline engines are much quieter. In addition, diesel engines give strong vibrations to the body.
But there is also a plus for such units - the torque from the engine to the drive, which reaches a maximum figure even at low revs.
For a fast, sporty ride, it is better to choose a car with a gasoline engine that can develop more power.
The conclusion from the above is ambiguous: owners of cars on a diesel engine may encounter a number of problems, but if you operate the machine correctly, you will not have to contact the service station staff. As an example, there are many cases when a car with this type of engine travels 1-1,2 million km in 20 years, while the service life of their gasoline counterparts on exactly the same model did not exceed 400-500 thousand kilometers.
Common questions
1. PWhy is a diesel engine more expensive than a gasoline engine? A diesel engine is structurally more complicated due to the presence of a high-pressure fuel pump and complex-shaped nozzles.
2. How to check a diesel engine? The first sign of checking the engine is by the color of the exhaust gases. After that, the compression, the pressure in the injection pump and the injection geometry of the nozzles are checked.
3... Why is the gasoline engine running loudly? This is due to the high compression ratio, which ignites the mixture without ignition. If the engine is running louder than expected, there is a problem with the ignition angles or the fuel system.
