Audi A new way of painting the car body has been developed, the press service of the manufacturer reports.
The German brand has patented a process of partial matting of already painted parts, which allows to apply drawings and inscriptions to the body over an area of one square meter.
The technology involves applying a special powder to the desired image to a depth of several thousandths of a millimeter (less than one tenth of the thickness of a human hair) on surfaces already coated with varnish. As a result, the resulting pattern has a uniform matte surface and is more durable than stickers and other traditional body ornamentation methods.
The first to take advantage of the new technology will be buyers of the Audi R8 sports car, which will be able to customize the design or lettering of the side air intakes of a coupe or roadster as part of the Audi exclusive program.
