Do-it-yourself anti-rain for cars
Getting the wipers ready for work
The absence of anti-rain is not so dangerous if the windshield wipers for the car were checked in advance. No matter how clean a windshield is, warped wipers can cause serious problems for the driver when a sudden snow or downpour hits his car on the road.
Even worse, when the combination of poorly functioning windshield wipers and a windshield covered with drops or snow catches the driver on a busy highway, when oncoming headlights are blinding, and paper napkins that accidentally find themselves in the cabin only rub dirt on the glass, dangerously scattering the rays around the entire perimeter. Therefore, before starting any trip, it is necessary to check the condition of the rubber bushings on the wiper base plate. They must not be worn, show signs of damage and not be deformed in the process of moving over the glass. Rubber cleaning should be done with special compounds (for example, Glaz No Squix or Bosch Aerotwin). This simple procedure will extend the life of your windscreen wipers, ensuring smooth sliding of the brushes.
Do-it-yourself anti-rain for glass
Quite a few recipes with suitable efficiency are known, all of them are characterized by efficiency for certain temperature conditions. The availability of all ingredients is also taken into account.
Recipes for homemade anti-rain compositions for cars are divided into two groups:
- For spraying.
- To apply with a napkin.
The simplest recipe, which will require candle wax and any light cologne or (worse) eau de toilette. In a suitable container, dissolve one part of paraffin in 20 parts of cologne. Then the final product is mixed and the container is carefully closed with a cap. The composition is ready, shake it before use, and do not store at temperatures below -50C. The product is applied by light circular rubbing of a thin layer into the surface of the glass or mirrors of the car. Wax must be thoroughly kneaded before use, and the surface treated with distilled water. The criterion for the end of the process is to check the adhesion of excess to the surface: if this happens, the operation must be completed. This process is not fast, so it is worth preparing the mixture in advance. After drying such a home-made anti-rain, glass and mirrors are polished with a clean cloth that will not leave streaks and radiant marks.
More aggressive compositions not only remove water marks, but also clean surfaces from dirt particles, residues of insects adhering to glass, etc. You need to work with them with rubber gloves, use a spray bottle for spraying. The processing sequence is as follows:
- Vigorously clean the glass with a hard microfibre cloth.
- The prepared surface is washed with water, preferably soft, which leaves no residue after drying.
- Apply any household glass cleaner (such as Glass Science Refellent Gel, Zero Stain or Microtex) to the surface to be treated.
- Polish the surface when the product is completely dry. There is no need to worry: water repellents will still remain on the glass.
Processing is recommended not in direct sunlight.
The following composition is based on the use of liquid detergent for washing machines. Tap water should not be used as a solvent. It is also recommended to add any anti-fog composition, in particular, Rain-X Interior Glass Anti-Fog in the amount of 10-20 drops per bottle up to 300 ml. All subsequent actions are similar to those described above.
Even simpler is the anti-rain spray composition for cars, which includes a regular soap solution, food indigo dye and ammonia. The proportions are:
- Liquid soap - 30%.
- Prepared water - 50%.
- Nashatyr - 15%.
- Dye - 5%.
Pour the finished mixture into a thoroughly washed bottle (it is recommended to use vinegar for this). Using the composition at a temperature below zero, 10% isopropyl alcohol must be added to it.
