These models are defined as "hyped", "ferocious" or "hot". What they have in common is that they target a specific customer category. Some of these cars gained cult status and were sold out as soon as they hit the market (Type-R, WRX STI, GTI).
At the same time, others turned out to be almost unsuccessful and quickly left the stage. We present to you 8 of these cars that appeared relatively recently, but did not achieve the results expected from them.
1 Abarth 695 Biposto (2014)
The retro minicar modified by Abarth received a large number of special versions. Even if the name Biposto is familiar to you, you may not know what kind of car it is.
And the photo shows, perhaps, one of the most radical and impressive Fiat 500 in the entire history of the brand. Also among compact cars, this mini Abart is the fastest in the history of a design studio.
It entered the market in 2014. Sales in the European market continued until the end of 2016. The price of a small car was impressive - almost 41 thousand euros.
Under the hood is a 190 hp engine. The car is equipped with a Brembo braking system, Akrapovich exhaust system, a suspension with sport settings, a limited-slip differential, a rally gearbox and exclusive wheels from OZ.
2 2008 Audi R8 V12 TDI Concept
The list at this place may include the E-tron model, which is a fully electric version. Its capacity is 462 hp, the cost is about 1 million euros, and the circulation is 100 units. In this case, however, we settled on a concept diesel model that was to appear in series production.
The V12 diesel unit is taken from the first generation of the Audi Q7 and, despite the reduction to 500 hp, this car is faster in power than the current Audi R8 V8. However, the model never made it to the assembly line.
3 BMW M5 Touring (2005)
For some time, the M5 logo appeared not only on the sedans of the BMW sports division, but also on the station wagon. This modification was added to the fifth generation of the M5. She was supposed to compete with the Audi RS 6 Avant.
The unstoppable Bavarian station wagon got the same 10 hp aspirated V507 that was installed in the sports sedan. Acceleration to the milestone of 100 km / h is 4,8 seconds, and the speed limit is activated at around 250. The cost of the car corresponds to its characteristics - 102,5 thousand euros.
4 Citroen DS3 Racing (2009)
DS cars are considered the benchmark of the French manufacturer's premium models. They were offered as sports versions of Citroen. Their participation in the World Rally Championship (WRC) has given them extra charm.
However, few people remember the model from this list, which was presented in Geneva. And this is despite the fact that the French hatchback can be safely called one of the hottest cars in recent years. He received several interesting versions, one of which was dedicated to the 9-time WRC world champion Sebastian Loeb.
5 Electric car Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (2013)
The electric supercar, which was launched 7 years ago, has one major problem - it is ahead of its time. The car is equipped with 4 electric motors - each wheel has an individual motor. They develop a total of 750 hp. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 3,9 seconds and the speed limit is limited to 250 km / h. Mileage with one battery charge is 250 km (NEDC cycle).
A little earlier, another equally rare model was released - the SLS AMG Black Series. Coupé with 8 hp V630 engine takes 100 km / h from a standstill in 3,6 seconds and develops 315 km / h. Its price on the European market is 434 thousand euros, and the circulation is 435 units.
6 2009 Porsche 911 Sport Classic
The novelty of 2009 was dedicated to the legendary Carrera 2.7 RS. In addition to the front attachment, the 911 receives 5-spoke wheels and an original spoiler. The 3,8-liter boxer has become more powerful - by 23 hp when compared with its predecessor and reaches 408 "horses".
The sporty Porsche 911 has a mintage of 250 and a starting price of 123 euros, making it one of the most expensive cars of the auto brand on the market at the time.
7 Seat Leon Cupra 4 (2000)
Currently Cupra is a separate brand with its own lineup, but 20 years ago it was considered a "bloated" variant of Seat. One of these cars is the Leon Cupra 4 (sport version), which was popular among European motorists. It is equipped with a 2,8-liter VR6 engine producing 204 hp. and all-wheel drive, identical to that of the VW Golf 4Motion.
This car is not cheap at all - the official Seat sellers at that time wanted 27 thousand euros for it. However, many prefer the cheaper Leon 20VT version, which develops 180 hp. This is why the Leon Cupra 4 hardly appears even today, but still costs a lot of money.
8 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S (2016)
The Clubports S version, which appeared in the 7th generation Golf GTI, remained little known to the general public. "Golf", shown in the photo, is considered the most powerful of its counterparts that have ever appeared on the market.
The hot hatchback gets a 2,0-liter turbo engine with 310 hp, Michelin sports tires and improved aerodynamics. The rear seats have been removed to reduce weight.
In 2016, the model became the fastest front-wheel drive car at the Nurburgring. The time on the Northern loop is 7 minutes and 49,21 seconds. A total of 400 of these cars were produced, and 100 of them were sold in Germany.
