Compared to what it was a few years ago, the automotive market offers a much larger assortment. However, time is relentless: some brands are flourishing, releasing more and more new models, while others, on the contrary, have failed to adapt to new trends in the industry. As a result, a number of well-known brands simply disappeared from the market, leaving only old cars and fond memories. Motor company has compiled a list of 10 such brands, which, unfortunately, have been forgotten.

NSU

Surprisingly, this German brand has not been on the market for almost half a century, but today many people regret its loss. Founded in 1873, it continued to keep up with the times until the 60s, and its compact rear-engined models were particularly successful. However, his next move turned out to be a frank failure: the first production car with a Wankel engine did not live up to expectations, and previous models were outdated. Thus ended the history of the independent NSU brand - in 1969 it was acquired by the Volkswagen Group, and then merged with Auto Union AG, which is now known worldwide as Audi.

Daewoo

Three decades ago, the Korean Daewoo was rightfully called the automobile giant. In addition, not so long ago, some models under this brand continued to appear on the market. However, in 1999 Daewoo was declared bankrupt and sold piece by piece. For the sake of fairness, it is worth clarifying that Uzbek-made Chevrolet Aveo replicas under the Daewoo Gentra brand continued to enter the market until 2015, and most brands under the once famous Korean brand are now produced under the Chevrolet brand.

SIMCA

The French also have their own brand in history, which was quite successful, but did not survive. This is SIMCA, known in the post-Soviet space as the basis for the creation of Moskvich-2141. But already in the 1970s, the well-known brand began to fade: in 1975, the last model was released under the SIMCA brand, and then the company became part of Chrysler. The new management decided to revive another legendary brand - Talbot, and the old one was forgotten.

Talbot

The brand has been known both in its native Britain and in France since the beginning of the 1959th century and can rightfully be considered elite: then powerful, prestigious cars were produced under this name. But in the middle of the century, its popularity began to decline, and in 1979 the brand was sold to the French SIMCA. Twenty years later, in 1994, the brand fell into the hands of PSA and Chrysler and the Talbot name was revived. But in short - in XNUMX the company was finally liquidated.

Oldsmobile

Oldsmobile was one of the oldest and most respected brands in America, with a history of less than 107 years. For a long time it was considered a symbol of "eternal" values ​​and quality. For example, in the eighties of the last century, some of the most modern American cars in terms of design were produced under the Oldsmobile brand. However, a beautiful appearance was not enough: by 2004, the brand could no longer adequately compete with its competitors, and the General Motors management decided to liquidate it.

Plymouth

Another American car brand that can be called "folk", but preserved in the last century, is Plymouth. The brand, whose history began in 1928, has been successfully operating on the market for decades and successfully competes with budget Ford and Chevrolet models. In the nineties, Mitsubishi models were also produced under her name. But even this could not save the famous brand from the liquidation that Chrysler held in 2000.

Tatras

In the past, quite a popular Czech brand, especially in the Eastern European market. However, at some point, Tatra stopped development, in fact, starting the production of only one model, but with a different design, which did not keep up with the times. The latest attempt to revive the brand was the release of an upgraded version of the Tatra 700 with a 8 hp V231 engine. However, this turned out to be unsuccessful - in 75 years of production, only 75 units were sold. This failure was the last for the Czech manufacturer.

Triumph

Today, the layman has not even heard of the models of this brand, and half a century ago, many dreamed of a car with the intriguing name Triumph. The company could produce both roadsters and sedans, and the latter competed well even with BMW. However, in the early 80s, the situation changed: after a very promising model - the Triumph TR8 sports roadster, the British did not release anything exceptional. Today the brand is owned by BMW, but the Germans don't seem to even think about its revival.

SAAB

Many people still regret this Swedish brand. SAAB regularly produced dynamic models that were popular with intellectuals and aesthetes. However, with the beginning of the new century, the constant change of brand from one owner to another put an end to promising production. After all, the last cars under the SAAB badge were launched in 2010 and there has been no sign of a brand revival since then.

Mercury

Once the Mercury brand, founded in 1938 and designed to make cars more expensive than Ford, but with a lower status than Lincoln, had a good basis for development and consumer demand. In the last years of its existence, for some unknown reason, under this name, little known among young people, reworked Ford models were actually produced. In many ways, this led to the disappearance of the brand: it was easier for a consumer to buy the same car, but from a well-known and proven brand over the years.
